Presentation Description
Sylvia was born on Purim 1925 in Salonika, a cosmopolitan city bustling with Jewish life in Northern Greece coast. She is only 16 when the Germans enter Salonika on April 8, 1941. We will follow Sylvia and her family from deportation to Auschwitz -Birkenau, through the Greek holocaust experience of loss and perseverance in the death camps, and her odyssean return to Salonika through liberated Europe. In a city that now feels strange she rebuilds what was taken from her but also morns for it in dreams and nightmares without escape. The tattooed number on her arm blurs, but never fades.
